Real World Testing

For all health IT developers taking part in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Health IT Certification Program, Real World Testing is an annual requirement stipulated in the ONC 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule. This condition and maintenance of certification requirement is meant to encourage Certified Health IT Developers to show their certified Health IT's functionality and interoperability in actual environments and situations rather than in a lab that has been authorized by the ONC for testing. Real World Testing conducts and measures observations of interoperability and data sharing to confirm that deployed Certified Health IT continues to operate as intended.
