Acceptable |
Situations where a client is only open to SUD, SUD information is checked I DO and only SUD information is being shared, for example the ROIs for SUD Treatment Data Collection or those for a family member involved in SUD treatment. ![]() ![]() |
Situations where staff may assist the client without disclosing that they are calling from Kennebec Behavioral Health, for example, helping a client with a utility or other resource, where it would not be necessary to send a copy of the release and staff can present themselves as case manager or employment specialist, etc. without disclosing that they work for KBH. |

Anytime the release will need to be sent to the other organization. Sending a Kennebec Behavioral Health release confirms that the client has services at KBH and receives some sort of treatment.
Releases marked DO NOT for Mental Health and SUD be marked discuss only. If the release or written communication needs to be shared then other limitations should be considered. I DO can be selected for Mental Health and the client may limit the exact info to be shared under Other in section B.

Hints |
Document on the release the reasoning for selecting DO NOT for mental health. This may be documented under Other in section B. If the reason is not clear, then Med Records staff will return the ROI for correction or scan it as invalid if they are not able to get it corrected. ![]() |
Be mindful of shared programs. Having an ROI on file that is extremely limited for your program's needs may affect other programs' ability to get the information they need. Consider using the Other line in section B to specify what your program can share without limiting other programs. ![]() |
ROIs with DO NOT checked for mental health will almost always be marked discuss only, since the ROI cannot be shared without disclosing that the client receives services at Kennebec Behavioral Health. ![]() |
Releases for emergency contacts are not necessary. The person will only be called in the case of an emergency and having them listed as an emergency contact is sufficient permission in the event of an emergency. ![]() |
